This revue is class stuff. What illustrations we can draw from this film, and what an encouragement to wage war against the flesh, world & Satan with all the strength we have!

Caleb, to quote Tyler Durden: "our war is a spiritual war." This is why being prepared for the Christian experience is compared to "armoring up" in Ephesians 6. Hooah. Brammer, your point about democracy is right on the money, and many theologians have seen the political landscape being painted in those pivotal years before Jesus as providential... as a good God setting things in motion even before Christ's incarnation.

I could not agree with you more! This film was a visual masterpiece. I truly appreciate how you looked at this film from disciple of Jesus' point of view.
Yes, the amount of nudity was unnecessary. Yes, it is quite gory(it's a movie about a battle, c'mon). But how amazing was it to see these men stand and die for what they believe. They trained for this opportunity, lived for it, and died for it. As Christians, we should do the same. It was a good reminder to challenge myself; Am I training everyday? Am I learning, growing and understanding why I'm living for what I believe? Am I willing to lose my life for the glory of God? I sure hope all who call themselves Christians (myself included) are living up to the life which we have been called.
Lastly, I read that Zach Snyder will be directing The Watchmen, which I'm sure he'll do a great job with.
Trying to view the world as God wants me to,

Good review...leaving the flick I thought of the Spartans as the classic anti-hero. You want to root for them yet, as you kind of state here, they have a belief system ingrained in the infallibility of Sparta and Spartan men even going so far as to kill the weaker of the Spartan boys. Kinda sad really...one last thought; I find it no coincidence that this battle was one of the defining moments in the rise of democracy which would allow the gospel to spread farther than Xerxes or Greek armies would ever reach. Looks like the true God-King had this plan all along...

I saw the film this weekend, and I resonate with your review. I was talking with a friend of mine who said that he was depressed after seeing the film. I asked why, he said because he knows that he'll never fight that kind of battle, but he really feels like he wants to be there, as one of the 300.

As I watched the film, I couldnt help but want to jump in, grab a spear and shield and go to battle for kin and clan. Just another example of how men were made for battle.

Thanks for the good review!
